World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

In what is now becoming a ubu tradition, we joined in with the “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” on 30th September to raise money for Macmilllan nurses. This year we chose to link the event to the celebrations of 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl.

The Hub staff who hosted the event wore some amazing costumes which added to the event’s enjoyment. Alongside the costumes, they all baked and brought in some very tasty cakes and pies for people to buy. We also had some lovely prizes donated from our suppliers and local businesses to make an amazing raffle. These included a cake that looked like a Wonka Bar, cinema tickets, a beauty treatment and vouchers to spend at Betty’s cafe.

What a turn out we had! It was fantastic - the people we serve, enablers, managers and members of our local community came along. There was almost no room to move. For this, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone! Without this support the event would not have been so much fun and raised so much money for such a wonderful cause.

There were lots of different things going on throughout the event as well as a cake sale, we had a raffle, guess the amount of sweets, colouring, decorating buns and one of our favourite…. ‘Pie in the face’ where we all spend a lot of time giggling about the mess that one of the team member’s had got into from all the pies and wet sponges thrown at him!

By each person just paying a few pounds for activities, competitions, raffles and of course, tea and cake, we raised £311 on the day, which ubu is matching to bring our donation to the Macmillan nurses to £622.00.

Thank you again to everyone who made this event so special this year and so much fun, without everyone who either hosted, came along or donated a prize, we could not have raised as much money as we did. ‘Till next year, when are looking forward to seeing you again for our next Macmillan Coffee morning.
