This is me, I have come so far!

Hi everybody. My name is Kylie and, I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I moved to my new place in Blackpool on the 31st of October 2022.

I am a very quiet lady who struggles with anxiety and have faced my own personal challenges with regard to becoming more independent.

Since moving to the new place and getting to know the support staff and housemate CM, I have come out of my shell so much. I always have a smile on my face and am often laughing and joking with the staff. I enjoy walking and being out and about in the local community keeping busy.

When I first moved in, I expressed I would love a volunteer job and to become a little more independent as I find relying on people for things quite stressful. I was supported to find a volunteer job by the support team at the Salvation Army helping the homeless, providing them with warmth, food, and, the amenities to wash and keep clean. I really enjoy this job and have even built up my confidence enough to travel independently via bus there and back. This is a great achievement for me!

I have more freedom and feel comfortable and confident when travelling by bus to do this independently now and I enjoy not relying on support staff to support me everywhere I need to go. I have set myself some personal goals around the house each month, such as learning how to work the washing machine and how to do my own laundry and ironing.

I have also learned how to cook several healthy meals, independently too and, can work the cooker and kitchen appliances with very minimal support now. I have expressed that my next goal for the following month is to start my very own “art group” within the ubu community, travelling to the different supports and working with the people we support to build on their art skills.

I have also expressed I would like to eventually build the confidence to go to the local corner shop by myself without support. I am really thriving and achieving the goals I set for myself at a pace I am comfortable with.
