Save Energy and money

We start the new month with the news that energy bills are going to rise and that the planet is warming – we each individually make a difference to both, so thought we would share some energy-saving tips

Use your tumble dryer less, if you have one - try to dry your clothes outside, getting easier as the days lengthen!

Run your washing machine at 30 degrees and make sure you wash a full load when you can

Switch off all appliances at the wall (also cuts down on the risk of Fires!)

Close all doors and curtains.

Use LED or other energy-efficient light bulbs and switch off lights when not in the room.

Turn off plug sockets at the wall if you’re not using them – don’t leave things on standby.

Close your curtains in the evening to keep in heat and tuck them behind radiators.

Make sure your fridge is set between 3 and 5 degrees and defrost your freezer regularly.

Check your Insulation in your attic or roof space if you have one and place draft proofing seals around doors and windows, make sure you are using a jacket on your heated water cylinder.

Swap your bath for a shower and cut down the length of time you shower for.

In the kitchen, only cook in sufficient water, don’t overfill kettles and pans, if boiling one pan can you use a steamer on top rather than heat another pan.

Energy companies are advising that taking such measures can save us all around £300 a year on average!
