Comic Relief Fund Raising Success!

The people we serve in Newcastle and North Tyneside and their enabling teams wanted to raise some money for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day this year.

Each ubu service in our area and the people we serve who live in them enabled by ubu to have greater independence, organised our fund-raising event by working together as One Team to make it fantastic.

We booked a room with the local community library and then got to work creating posters and baking cakes. Ubu team members and people we support raised awareness around the area by delivering posters and telling people about the event. The people we serve in each household baked cakes for the event.

One gentleman, an avid reader, who lives enabled by ubu in one of the services, kindly decided he would like to donate a large selection of books he no longer needed to our fund-raising effort. His generosity was the spark which ignited big-heartedness from enabling team members, friends and families to also donate books. So without too much difficulty we had a bake and a book sale arranged!

In fact, it was not just the people we serve and ubu enablers working together as One Team, but also the families and friends who all took part by contributing with cake baking and book donations and many of the other arrangements.

The day was a great success with the people we serve and their families all coming together to put on the event. It attracted a great interest and interaction from the local community and from further afield too.

On the day we had cakes and books for sale, a raffle, a tombola, various beverages and also free manicures for guests! Everybody had a great time and we raised over £440 for Comic Relief. We achieved an amazing amount by working together. We had a lot of fun, made new friends and became much closer to one another.
