Aloha

I think it is important to set yourself targets every year and, this year, I’ve made it one of my goals to really help my local community. Giving back and helping others is something that I think about a lot as I know how important it is to have people who care. It can make such a difference to people’s lives.

Let me tell you a little bit more about myself… My name is Adrian and I live in Poulton. I love to host events and sitting in the middle of laughter, fun and frolics makes my day. I love moments just like that!

My ubu staff team helped me to organise my events this year. I thought that I could make my events more meaningful to others by making fundraising part of the fun! I really love doing both of these two things at once.

My enabling team and I chatted about how we could make my plan come to life. As well as organising the event, I had to organise the fundraising side of it too! I needed to collect some tombola prizes. I do this by asking people if they have anything that they might be willing to donate. I am always delighted that people are so kind and volunteer tombola prizes. It’s so important to have a good choice of prizes as it makes it more interesting and more fun for the people who are taking part in the tombola.

When chatting over the options with my ubu team, we looked to other events for inspiration. One of the pictures we looked at was of The Great British Garden Party. As soon as I saw it, I knew that this was exactly what I needed as my next fundraiser. I smiled as I began to plan for the big day.

While planning for our party, we decided that our Great British Garden Party needed a theme and we wondered what the brightest and happiest type of would be? It wasn’t too long before we came up with the perfect theme – Hawaiian! Bright, colourful and so much fun, our garden party was going to be blooming marvellous!

Everyone in my home and my support team worked very hard to organise and host my Hawaiian-themed Great British Garden Party!

ubu staff helped us to decorate our home with colourful flowers and Hawaiian-themed decorations. We also needed to ensure that we could count on lots of attendees and so we thought we should issue invitations to our family members and all our friends.

Our garden party was a huge success. The weather was bright and sunny all day and, while not quite Hawaiian temperatures, the sun shone and it really felt as if we were somewhere quite magical. Wearing our Hawaiian floral leis and our tropical grass skirts, we had a fun-filled day of laughter, fresh fruit and delicious punch. It was amazing to have a day out of the normal routine where we spent time together, eating and laughing.

The highlight of the day for many people was the tombola. Everyone got involved and loved to win something. Happy with all their prizes, not only did we have a day to remember and prizes to take away, but we were able to raise some funds that will help others!
