20 years at ubu

When I joined Northern Life Care 20 years ago, I had hair! I never in a million years would have imagined I would be working for the organisation for another 20 years.

Initially, the job was a temporary measure for something to do while I worked out what I wanted to do. I did explore other opportunities a couple of times, but as I spent more time working with the People We Support and learning how much they have to offer, my realisation that I was already doing what I wanted to do was reinforced.

Throughout this time, I have had the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, from NVQs to diplomas to delivering training myself.

My confidence has increased drastically over the years, when I first started as a support worker, I was shy and uncertain about my abilities. However, as I gained more experience and took on more responsibilities, I began to believe in myself and my abilities. This confidence has helped me to become the team leader I am today, and I am able to lead my team with confidence and consistency.

There have been many changes over the years, good and bad, laughter and tears, far too many to mention, but one thing that has remained consistent throughout is the commitment of the people I work with to ensure the needs of the People We Support are prioritised and they are being supported to lead as fulling life as they are able to.
