Finding Light in the Fog

I want to speak directly to our local authority officers about our people who work tirelessly to deliver positive outcomes for the individuals and families we serve.

It’s hard work, especially in our increasingly challenging economic climate.

I want authorities to understand our frustration of being asked to do more with less, or often, with nothing at all. The reality of trying to achieve anything of value without the financial tools to support our efforts is not just difficult, it’s disheartening. And yet, you continue to show up with dedication, compassion, and a fierce commitment to doing what’s right.

Let me be clear, we see you. We value you, and we stand with you!

Honestly, for social care teams up and down our country right now it’s like being asked to bake a cake without flour, eggs, or an oven and still being expected to win The Great British Bake Off.

Economic and political climates are getting tougher. Resources are thinner than a budget spreadsheet in January. And yet, expectations remain; deliver best value, create positive outcomes, support the needs of individuals and their families, have a work life balance and of course, keep smiling throughout!

It’s not just challenging, it’s exhausting, very rarely does anyone see the work from your perspective, but I want to say, from the heart, we see you. We understand the weight you carry, the creativity you summon, and the resilience you show every single day.

But here’s the thing, even when the cupboard feels bare, our communities still need us all: our ideas, our skills, our compassion, and our determination to find productive, meaningful outcomes, even if we have to build them from scratch with Sellotape and hope.

This isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. It’s about acknowledging the struggle and still choosing to lead with purpose. It’s about finding joy in our small wins, humour in shared challenges, and strength from each other.
