Worldwide, one in three women and one in five men aged 50 years and over suffer an osteoporotic fracture.
Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and fragile; this means they break easier from something as little as a fall, bump, sneeze or a sudden movement. Fractures caused by osteoporosis can be life threatening, cause major pain and long-term disability.
To help prevent osteoporosis here are 5 tips to health bones and a fracture free future:
Exercise – Exercise regularly keeping your bones and muscles moving.
Nutrition – A healthy bone diet with plenty of calcium, vitamin D and protein.
Lifestyle – Avoid smoking and excessive drinking.
Risk factors – Find out if you have risk factors, these can include having a previous fracture, family history of osteoporosis or taking medication that affects bone health.
Testing & Treatment – Get tested by your Doctor and get treatment if needed.
