World Alzheimer’s Day

21st September

Today is about raising awareness and challenging the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Over 50 million people worldwide are living with dementia, with millions more being diagnosed each year. It is critical that we build our understanding of these diseases so that we can effectively help those living with this disease. By encouraging conversations, asking questions and sharing information, we can fight the stigma that often leaves people and their families feeling isolated.

Here are a few ways to help support those living with the disease and their families.

  • Have patience and understanding- people with Alzheimer’s can struggle with everyday tasks, memory and communication.
  • Encourage them to socialise – Isolation can worsen dementia symptoms.
  • Routine – Consistent daily routines can help reduce confusion

Spend today learning to help those you may know with the disease or just having conversations, asking questions and challenging the stigma around Alzheimer’s.
