Welcoming New Team Members by Dorothy Jarvis-Lee

We all enjoy meeting and welcoming new team members who are joining ubu. They are carefully recruited from every generation and all walks of life and they each come with new skills, interests and abilities which bring fresh approaches, enthusiasm and ideas.

ubu provides one of the most comprehensive and practical induction courses for new team members in the health and social care sector. We do this because of our fervent belief that when we have been given responsibility for safeguarding and supporting vulnerable people we must actively demonstrate our commitment to providing the best practice and care available.

Over the course of a residential week training course we give our new members guidance, basic knowledge and the some of the most essential skills they will need to fulfil the needs of their new role supporting and enabling vulnerable people to live their lives with more independence and happiness. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet some of the people served by ubu, engage with them and find out more about what they want to achieve in their lives.

Our induction programme has been carefully designed, tested and presented to fulfil the requirement of all people working in the health and care sector to understand and be able to put into practice the 15 standards outlined in the Care Certificate which was introduced in 2014 as a requirement for all healthcare support workers. It is also an opportunity to meet some of the people served by ubu, engage with them and find out more about what they want to achieve in their lives.

ubu is, and always has been fully committed to ensuring that the service we give to the people we serve is of the very highest standard, complying with legislation and providing the best care and support available even when no one is looking.

We have a team of highly experienced specialist managers who guide the learning and growing of our new Enabling Support Workers by providing an experiential, practical and knowledge-based approach to understanding their responsibilities as carers, ubu’s unique culture which is dedicated to transforming the lives of the people we work with by enabling them to achieve all of the rights and privileges of citizenship in a person-led way with appropriate and minimal support.
