Every year, ubu hosts 15 days of Christmas Festivities for the people we serve. Today we reached Day 9 of this year’s Festivities and it was a ‘humdinger’ of a celebration including Angela who travelled from Darlington to join the ubu elves in presenting another lovely event for the people we serve to enjoy. Our guests came from all over, braving the cold and rain to take part. Charlie was amused and delighted by the brightly clad elves and the beautiful decorations that greeted him. Many of our visitors had made a brilliant effort to dress in seasonal outfits and they donned Christmas headwear to complete the fun.
We sang and danced as is our tradition when we get together. Huge Santa stockings were stuffed and then a long line of people formed and danced out of the door and into the street, singing Christmas Carols which definitely cheered up curious passers-by. The line danced and sang right around our building returning through the front door to very welcome warm drinks and tasty home-made snacks and delicious panetone cake.
Louise was really happy she had been able to come with her friends and is looking forward to the Christmas party they are soon having saying “This has got me in the mood to have a great time at our party, I can’t wait!” Daniel arrived with his broad and happy smile and showed us his very best dance moves from the moment he arrived until the moment he left.
The people we serve in Manchester have nominated a community play and learning centre called ‘Cheeky Cherubs’ for a donation from ubu of £50 which will be used to provide a new outdoor artificial grass play area. Cheeky Cherubs is a not for profit social enterprise and is a place for everyone and welcomes children and their families who have special needs to enjoy the brilliant playrooms and sensory spaces.
As our celebration today drew to a close, Alison and the other visiting people we serve came together to sing “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” Who knows? Perhaps there will be snow tomorrow because some of us are definitely dreaming of a white Christmas!
