ubu's 6th day of Christmas Festivities

7th December 2015

The second week of ubu’s 15 Days of Christmas Festivities began again today. There was a lot of excited anticipation as the people we serve began to arrive and were warmly greeted by the ubu elves. Our guests made exceptional efforts to dress in seasonal outfits, ready to join the fun, wearing Christmas jumpers and jolly hats. The tinkling sound of jingling bells could be heard everywhere.

We sang “I wish it could be Christmas every day” together with gusto and we enjoyed several  people taking a turn, singing karaoke-style, to entertain us. Our guests came from far and wide making the event even happier than ever because we were able to reconnect with friends we haven’t seen since last Christmas!

Our leader elf was also looking suitably festive with his sparkling Christmas Pudding jumper and was joined by helper elves in organising a team game of Snowball Shy. Instead of coconuts we had big fluffy balls at which the teams aimed their soft snowballs. The result was hilarious, as the elves who were holding the ball targets were pelted (gently) with snowballs.

When the laughter subsided a little, we watched a short video together about our charity of the day which had been nominated by ubu’s Children’s Service in Sheffield. Roundabout is Sheffield’s local youth housing project which provides shelter, support and life skills to young people as they prepare to leave care services. Roundabout helps and mentors young people to move towards living independently and safely in the community.

ubu is proud to contribute our support to Roundabout with a donation of £50 towards their pioneering approach to working with and respecting people’s needs, reflecting many of the same values and the vision we have towards the people we serve.

Platters piled high with lovely shortbread biscuits were served to our guests with hot drinks by a group of ubu elves. They made sure that everyone left with a little token of seasonal fun to decorate their homes with. Doreen from Knaresborough said “I’m looking forward to coming again next week because I want to sing a Christmas Carol for everyone”. We’re looking forward to that too!
