Day Four of the ubu Christmas festivities started with people we serve arriving for our celebration on a rather misty and damp day. But once welcomed inside by the ubu elves, our guests began to feel the warmth of Christmas spirit.
The ubu elves had organised a Santa crafting workshop for our guests where we made and decorated sparkling, festive paper lanterns. Alan from Leeds said “This is fantastic, I’m going to hang my lantern at home when I get back". During the summer Alan was involved with a team of people from ubu in Leeds who worked on an art project making an animated video. Everyone who took part in the lantern making came away with a beautiful decoration, Beverley also from Leeds said, “I’m giving this one to my friend, I think I made something really lovely here today”.
One of the reasons we enjoy sharing our seasonal festivities is that we can get together and have fun, meeting old and new friends and spreading the joy and happiness we all need at this time of year. Jason and Paul arrived from Knaresborough and that was the cue for the singing and dancing to get properly under way. Jason never stopped singing along to every merry song and carol and as our last guest to leave was still singing as he was walking out the door! Today’s song of the day was “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” and certainly felt and sounded like that was true!
After plates of crumbly Christmas cookies were passed around and chocolate and strawberry flavoured milk was drunk, we stopped to hear about our nominated charity of the day, which was suggested by the people we serve from Blackpool. Trinity Hospice gives unconditional love, care and support to people and their families who are need it at the most difficult time in their lives. People we serve went to the Hospice to present them with a donation from ubu of £50 and were inspired by the warmth and commitment shown by Trinity Hospice in everything they do.
We’re already excited about our get together tomorrow and can hardly wait to see what the ubu elves will come up with for us to enjoy.
