ubu's 2nd Day of Christmas 2015 Festivities

1st December 2015

Day Two of ubu’s Christmas festivities continued with a celebration of good company and fun. The people we serve popped into enjoy the warm hospitality on offer today.

ubu elves, Mark, Nick, Annie and Becca were ready for our guests with hot drinks, gingerbread people and Christmas ginger cake. All very welcome on what was a less than seasonal day outside. There were rousing choruses of our favourite Christmas songs.  Deborah from Harrogate and Helen from Knaresborough got up to sing heart-felt, karaoke-style for “All I Want For Christmas Is You” joined by the hub elves and friends. Dane, also from Knaresborough, gave a very convincing rendition of another Christmas classic.

Our chief elf for the day, Mark then got the party going with a game of “Snowball Hoop” in which teams of elves and guests had to toss soft snowballs into a snowman-shaped hoop. There was to be no holding back when it came to throwing snowballs around the room and soon there was snowball pandemonium!

Elfin Mark then announced a completion for the best Christmas sweaters in the room and there were two clear winners, Deborah and Helen!

Each of ubu’s 15 Days of Christmas does have a more serious side too. Every day a charity is nominated by each of the regions where ubu enables the people we serve in their own homes to live independently. ubu donated £50 to today’s nominated charity which was for the British Heart Foundation in Spalding, Lincolnshire. We watched a video about the British Heart Foundation’s vision which is of a world in which people don’t die prematurely or suffer from heart disease. The organisation has a wealth of information, booklets and videos to help people make healthy choices to protect their hearts.

ubu in Spalding chose the British Heart Foundation because recently the family of someone close to us lost someone very dear to them through heart disease. ubu encourages everyone we serve and the people who work for us to adopt a more healthy lifestyle and the work of the British Heart Foundation helps people to become more aware of the cardiac illness, its causes and the minor changes we can all make in our lives to protect ourselves.

All our guests left with wonderfulprizes and gifts. The elves at the Hub are already planning something special for tomorrow, so come back then and see what happens!
