The Public Reaction to 'Saints & Scroungers'

12th February 2013

The latest episode of BBC1’s ‘Saints and Scroungers’ is now available at the following location:

We are so proud to have been invited to be involved in the programme which aired yesterday, where viewers could celebrate with James and the achievements he has accomplished so far.

Since the initial airing of the show we have received a multitude of fantastic comments from around the country. These include:

“I saw the programme today ‘Saints and Scroungers’ and thought the outcome and end result was fantastic, down to a lot of dedication and foresight of the support staff.
I am a Day Support Worker, working in Transition for Wigan Council. Whilst watching the programme I had tears of joy after seeing the great work that had been done and how happy Jo was to see her son content. What you are doing is Brilliant and is making a big impact to children with special needs.” Sue McGarragh – Wigan Council

“Fantastic outcomes, well done to James and his team” – Catherine Holland – Manchester

“I have just watched the moving story of James….Do you offer any similar support in the South of England?” Emailed Response

“Good to see quality supported living being celebrated on the BBC” - Twitter

“Great to see ubu mentioned on ‘Saints & Scroungers’ as providing fab support, well done” - Twitter
It’s fantastic to receive so many wonderful comments, however it’s more inspiring to know that James’ story has reached the hearts of people across the country; one of many ubu stories that successfully celebrates consumers taking control of their lives and becoming the people they want to be.

We would also like to thank the team of Enablers, whose tireless efforts in providing support to James were recognised. These thanks are shared with all ubu enablers, who are helping hundreds of people with learning disabilities and complex behaviours to achieve greater independence on a daily basis.
