Shelter helps people to find permanent accommodation, a place of their own where they can be comfortable and safe. The charity also supports people by providing help with debt problems, benefit issues and housing issues. It can provide support to people who may have additional support needs, or require aids or adaptations to be made to their home, to apply for the correct benefits and assessments that they are entitled to.
AW and RH went to visit one of shelter shops in Urmston to represent ubu in presenting a Christmas donation cheque, and as a thank you for the amazing and much needed work that Shelter does for people with housing and other issues. These people often feel alone, isolated and that they have lost their place in society.
We spoke with Michael, one of shelters dedicated staff, who welcomed us into their shop. Michael explained to us the excellent work they do and showed us around. Michael was delighted to receive the cheque from ubu and explained that this would go towards this year’s emergency appeal to help the 75,000 children who are living in B&Bs and hostels.
Michael explained that because these children are homeless they are much more likely to experience hostility and isolation at school and as a result have emotional and mental health issues and much more likely to leave school with no qualifications.
It was great to be part of the presentation of a cheque from ubu for such a worthwhile cause.
