The annual Race For Life events organised by Cancer Research UK inspire people from all over the country to slip into their running shoes and take part. The people ubu serves and members of their enabling support teams have been very enthusiastic in their participation this year.
People from many of the areas ubu serves have trained, taken part in their local Race For Life events and together have raised more than £800. They have all shown their commitment and generosity, completing their races in style, often using social media sites to raise awareness of their participation in these brilliant events.
Jodie from Leeds has taken part in several Race for Life events in the past and this year was no exception. “I have done this race a few times and each of these raised money for the charity. I like walking and getting out and about and, if I do say so myself, I look good in pink!”
Together with her ubu enabler Lynn, Jodie completed the 5k challenge at Temple Newsam near Leeds this summer. They raised an incredible £120 from sponsorship and Jodie is thrilled by their achievement.
Lauren from York succeeded in completing the full Pretty Muddy Race For Life event held on the Knavesmire Racecourse. She took up the 5k challenge alongside hundreds of other women and her ubu enabling staff. It involved walking, jogging and climbing her way around the very muddy course tackling every obstacle she encountered. Afterwards, a BBQ and fun day was enjoyed by her friends, parents and the people we serve in York. One of the activities that was most enjoyed by the people we serve was soaking nominated enabling staff with water bombs. Overall more than £200 was raised from the day’s event contributing towards reaching their target of £500 in sponsorship for the Race For Life charity.
These events are a special opportunity for the women who take part and their sponsors to remember family and friends who have had to deal with facing cancer. The people ubu serves are no exception and many have generously taken up the challenge to run in these events, joining with their local communities in support of this worthy cause.
