I’ve been working for ubu in a variety of ways since 1986. I’ve been fortunate to have experience in many roles, from directly enabling the people we serve to managing some of our supports and acting as a peripatetic specialist manager whenever I’m needed.
I did leave ubu for a few years to explore the world and try out different working options but I missed the commitment and vision of ubu and I returned in 2006. I love the fact that my working day is never the same as the last one, in fact no minute is ever alike! I relish change and the challenge of constantly developing, growing and learning new skills and understanding to better serve the people we work with.
The best thing about ubu is about being part of a group of people who are like a family, sharing their commitment, experience and love for each other and what they do. As a specialist manager I spend a lot of my time listening carefully to people so that I can really understand what they are communicating and then act on it. I believe that the most important thing is to always ensure that we do what we say we are going to do so that the people we serve can become who they should be.
