I believe that the people we serve must have a personalised bespoke person-led service at all times, even when no one is looking and I believe we deliver this. I'm responsible for ubu's vision, strategic management and development, and making sure these strategies are executed. In reality this means leading a talented team who are dedicated to making sure people with complex emotional and behavioural problems get the chance to live as independently as the rest of us - and we're blazing a trail in social care with how we do that.
I take a 'can do' attitude to work, making sure our philosophy - being ‘person-led'; putting the people we serve at the centre of everything we do - is put into practice, so that we genuinely deliver what we promise. Much of my work is about listening to people; seeing where we can improve - looking at new ways of doing things, new ideas - while still running a highly efficient business. I strongly believe everyone in the team has a part to play in making our work successful, regardless of their position.
Since joining ubu and I've seen the business grow from a staff of 20 to over 1200, helping over 500 adults and children at any one time. Before joining ubu, I worked in key managerial positions in the NHS, local authority and charity sectors, providing specialised support to people with complex needs.
One of the keys to ubu's success is that we are constantly evolving and changing, which is why so many people choose our supports. I love change, love seeing people grow, love opportunity, love innovation and developing solutions. Perhaps this is best summed up by one of my favourite quotations: 'It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive.'
