Our 7th Day of Christmas festivities was filled with energy and expectation. People we serve came to celebrate with the ubu elves organising a brilliant game which had a Yuletide twist on traditional musical chairs. With jolly, seasonal music playing, we swapped our Santa’s hats and reindeer antler headbands every time the music stopped. It was a high-energy game that everyone could take part in and it was a lot of fun.
The dancing and singing reached a new peak today. We’re all getting more and more excited as Christmas gets closer. Many of ubu’s guests were planning to get on with their gift shopping this afternoon and it was exciting to talk about our plans for the Holiday period. Warm sausage rolls and cheesy pastry bites were served by helper elves which gave everyone an opportunity to get to know each other a little better and share stories and jokes.
Our nominated charity today was King’s Foodshop in Darlington, which is a community project that led the way in setting up food banks a few years ago and was the inspiration for many others that followed. They collect basic food and household contributions from the general public, which are then distributed to people who are struggling and in financial difficulty. Their service not just available at Christmas, but throughout the year. ubu is delighted to support this organisation with a donation of £50 because it provides such a valuable contribution to people who need King’s Foodshop’s help in Darlington.
We ended our festivities today by singing “Happy Christmas, War is Over”, a song we all love, with cheery voices and lots of optimism. Several of our guests kept the spirit of the season going by encouraging us all to join in and sing louder! All too soon it was time to return to our busy afternoons and with fond farewells we went off to enjoy the rest of the day. Glyn from Darlington said “I’m really glad we made the effort to come all this way today, I’ve enjoyed the journey and I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas!”
