Every year ubu hosts 15 festive celebrations at our Hub in Harrogate for the people we serve throughout December. Our tradition continued this year beginning with our first day of festivities and an hour of seasonal fun.
ubu Elves, John, Lesley, Gilvray and Sophie welcomed our guests and we began with a boisterous game of ‘Pass It” which involved large seasonal beach balls being moved at great speed, hand to hand, over the heads of teams of ‘elfin’ guests. The competition was very keen. Helen, from Leeds, got very excited, encouraging her team to “go faster!” We had several rounds of the game, with our Leader Elf, John declaring at the end that “we are all winners”.
Delicious Christmas mince pies were served by Gilvray and everyone had a warming drink before we watched a short video about our nominated charity which today is for World Wild Fund for Nature. We chose to support this amazing organisation because the group’s mission to stop the destruction of our planet’s natural environment and build a future in which we can all live in harmony with nature, inspires us.
World Wild Fund for Nature works tirelessly to ensure that endangered species like tigers, polar bears and elephants are protected while also looking after the oceans, rivers and forests in which they live. You can find out more about the organisation at their website www.worldwildlife.org and by watching our video below.
Caroline, one of our guests from Knaresborough said “I’ve had a lovely time today and I enjoyed the seeing old friends and meeting new ones too”. We sang along to “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” and then it was time to say ‘goodbye’ and return to our busy lives and preparations for Christmas.
At ubu we are looking forward to entertaining another group of people we serve tomorrow. Check back with us to find out what our nominated charity of the day will be and how we celebrate the 2nd Day of Christmas.
