ubu’s 10th day Of Christmas Festivities began with people we serve arriving by every kind of transport possible to enjoy our seasonal event today. Ann and Jon travelled having already had an excellent party the night before with all their ubu friends in Leeds. Jon said “We were determined to get here today, even though it’s cold and damp! It’s lovely to see everyone looking so happy!”
Diamond arrived dressed head to toe in Christmassy red and ready to play our festive ‘Pass the Parcel’ game. There were some great prizes in the parcel, Diamond unwrapped a pair of socks and a bell, and then as it was passed around all manner of fun things were uncovered including little tree decorations and even more bells. The dancing and singing got underway and our guests and the ubu elves were in very good voice today. People walking past on their lunch-breaks peered in through the windows of our Christmas room and waved and smiled at us. “They probably wish they could join in too”, said Sandra from Morley, “but this is something special for us today”.
Anthony probably had the most impressive Christmas hat of the day, which seemed to be piled high with a cake, presents and a miniature reindeer on the top. ubu elves and helpers made sure that everyone had a little cake, mini Yule logs and dainty cupcakes, and then we stopped for a couple of minutes to watch a video about our nominated Charity of the Day.
People we serve in Nottingham have chosen ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ for a donation from ubu of £50 to support this charity which finds ways to grant the special wishes of children who have life-threatening diseases. We watched a story about a trip to Santa’s headquarters in the far, far north which was organised for nearly one hundred children. You can also see the story in the video below.
We wound up our celebration by singing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” together. Many of our guests decided to take the opportunity to head into Harrogate for some important Christmas shopping or a treat themselves to finding somewhere nice for lunch.
