The Brick Homeless Project

10th December 2013

ubu's 7th donation of the Christmas countdown supports The Brick Homeless Project.

The Brick aims to provide homeless and disadvantaged people with a dedicated place where they could recover. The service does not provide accommodation but has a day centre which welcomes anyone who needs help with homelessness issues. This includes showers and breakfast for street homeless, advice times and support, training courses and food parcel pick up.

Karen and Alan went along to present the cheque from ubu to the Wigan based homeless project.

Alan asked what the donation would be used for and the lady we met explained that it would be used for the food bank where people visit after being referred for a food parcel. These parcels contain nine meals made up of three breakfasts, three main meals & three snack meals plus toiletries, tea or coffee and snack extras when available. For families, they receive a parcel for each person over 6 years old and young children receive ½ a parcel.

The brick have around 26 volunteers and are always looking for more which at this point Alan decided he would like to help out with the making up of these parcels.

It is good to know that the donation is going to a worthy cause and will make a difference to people’s lives at this time of year.
