I have a sister called Carmel who lives abroad. Because of the cost of travel I do not see her very often, and it had in fact been almost 3 years since her last visit.
But recently she made the trip from America and it was fantastic. She was amazed at some of the incredible changes I have made in my life, and we chatted away for hours. ubu had taken some photos of the things I had been doing which we were able to show her and she loved seeing what I do with my time.
I have never been very good at writing letters so I tended not to keep in touch when she was at home. Because of this ubu suggested that I set myself up with an email address. I was supported to do this and it has certainly narrowed the gap between the oceans. Since Carmel went back home I have been able to send messages and pictures to keep her up to date with all my latest news. In turn she has been able to send me pictures of where she lives; it’s so exciting to see.
Setting up my email address has also opened new doors for me. I have used the computer to apply for a therapeutic working role and they emailed me back to say they will come and see me soon! It really is incredible what technology can help us achieve.
