I really enjoy taking on new challenges and trying new things. So recently I was very excited when given the opportunity to do a charity sky dive!
With support from ubu I was able to arrange a jump at an airfield in Bridlington.
The day of my jump arrived and I was happy that the weather was good because it was forecast that there could be rain and I was worried it might be cancelled.
We were given a brief on the ground about safety, and how it would all happen once we got in the air - and then we took off! It was incredible to be up above the clouds and look at them stretching out as far as the eye could see. This part was exciting enough but then came time for the real action; the doors were opened and my moment had arrived.
This was the only time I was actually scared, looking out of the doorway down thousands of feet below to the ground. But then came the best bit – jumping out of the plane was my favourite moment, what a feeling! It was the best thing I’ve ever done.
On the way down it was such a strange feeling. The air was cold and was blowing against my face, pinning my cheeks back because of the speed. At times it was hard to breathe but it was such a rush that I was never worried.
Then came the feeling of relief when the parachute opened and I started my graceful descent to the grassy fields beneath me. The ground was a little hard and so when I finally came down I landed with a bit of a thud but nothing too bad, and it was generally a very smooth landing.
I am so happy to have done the jump, not only because it was so much fun, but also to prove wrong the people that thought I might not go through with it.
The brilliant part is that I had my day filmed and so I now own a DVD of my whole day. This will be a great keepsake for me, a reminder of this wonderful achievement, and will also be something I can show off to my family and friends who weren’t able to come with me on the day.
I am very happy to say that I also raised a large amount of money for my charity (Springboard) which will help them to carry out the great work they do in the community.
I’m now looking forward to doing many more exciting things in the future and definitely want to do another jump as soon as I can!
