Every football fan dreams of it, but Richard from Knaresborough has actually seen it - Brazil playing live, here in the UK!
And not just any old international game but an Olympic match! Richard was lucky enough to get tickets for the match at St James Park. But Richard, who has Kiwi connections, was there supporting underdogs New Zealand.
He travelled to Newcastle by train, with (very lucky!) ubu Enabler and fellow footie fan Jamie. Sadly for Richard, he got to watch Brazil stroll into the quarter final, beating New Zealand 3-0. Wearing a New Zealand shirt given to him by his niece, Richard reflected "New Zealand just weren’t playing well enough."
A keen footballer himself, Richard trains and plays with the local Harrogate Gateway club. He loves travelling to tournaments in 'footballer style' on the luxury coach (complete with movies!) almost as much as he enjoys the game itself.
Over the years he has played with Gateway, Richard has won numerous medals. But this Saturday saw him glued to the TV with his mum and dad, watching Brazil fight Mexico for the Olympic gold. Perhaps not surprisingly after what he had witnessed at St James Park, Richard was rather pleased to see Brazil get their comeuppance in the surprise 2-1 defeat by Mexico.
