Katie's Diary

My Story by Angela

4th January 2012

This is my life within ubu to date. I happily moved from Hillview hostel to my new home ten years ago and have been happy and content ever since.

Moving from living in an institution to my own home was a huge step for me and took a great deal of time to adjust. But this has been my own home for many years now and I take pride in it.

I have used my time here wisely and attended college for a number of years where I gained more skills. With the support of my staff I have looked after myself and my home to a high standard.

My holidays have been fantastic and are very important to me, I have been to Disneyland twice, Scotland, Lake District, Isle of White, Scarborough, London and Butlins and Haven sites. Another love of mine is going to see shows, I’ve seen Abba, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Joseph, River Dance, Dancing on Ice and so many more. Another favourite of mine is Cliff Richard and I have been to see him twice. Not forgetting, I met Ray Malton and he sent me some photos of myself with him, I put one into a frame straight away and tell everyone about him.

My sister Pat, has been a constant in my life and is very important to me and she visits me regularly. I don’t stay at hers as often as I did when I first moved as now I just want to be in my own home.

I have a new niece whom I love dearly and is an important part of my life and I see her regularly at my own home and out with my sister Pat.

My whole family have been made to feel welcome at all times by my fellow housemates and know they can visit at any time.

I chose to retire a few years ago as I wanted to stay at home and happily tell people “I am retired”. This is me, I am a strong minded lovely lady and wanted to tell you all a little bit about my life.
