My name’s Charlotte and I’m thrilled to be given the chance to help out in my community, delivering leaflets for my local police force.
I’ve always been very active and I really enjoy being outdoors rather than cooped up inside. I wanted to do something to help other people for some time – and thankfully with support from ubu, I’ve made it happen.
I arranged an appointment with the Volunteer Bureau near where I live. The Volunteer Bureau supports people with sensory or learning difficulties, by providing information and support to volunteers and volunteering organisations. It acts as an advice centre for volunteers and it is also a recruitment service for local organisations and businesses and it’s also a handy place to meet other people.
I had a lovely chat with the team there and told them what I was interested in doing. I was offered a role delivering leaflets about the local Neighbourhood Watch and the emergency services. It was a perfect role for me. Getting out and about and chatting to people on my delivery round has really helped with building my confidence and self-esteem. I’ve enjoyed every minute.
The people I have met while doing my delivery round have been so lovely and friendly. It’s been great to meet lots of new people in the area, as well as getting some enjoyable exercise. I’m keeping fit while doing something useful, which must be good!
ubu has supported and encouraged me to try new things and to make a positive contribution to my community - and I’m really happy about that.
