11th Day of ubu Christmas Festivities

15th December 2014

For the 11th day of Christmas, Santa’s elves brought his grotto to ubu, with stockings hung neatly and parcels and toys stacked against the fireplace. You could feel the excitement and anticipation in the air. With a full room, a rendition of “Santa Claus is coming to Town” was sung at the top of everyone’s voices. After such an energetic sing-song it would have only been rude for Mrs Claus not to start handing out the parcels. The room was split into three separate groups and large parcels began to circulate and multiple games of Pass the parcel commenced. With plenty of prizes being unwrapped, everyone had a blast.
With a fabulous spread of Irish-inspired chicken and steak pies waiting to warm the crowds up. Everyone tucked straight it. Luscious bread and butter pudding was then shared-which certainly went down a treat.

As ubu and friends shared in the good times we learnt of the two nominated charities of the day. Marie Curie Cancer Nurses provides care to terminally ill patients in their own homes or in hospices, while offering support to their families. In 2013-2014 Marie Curie helped 40,884 people. With nine hospices across the UK, they are the biggest provider of hospice beds outside of the NHS. They also campaign for more patients to be able to be cared for and die in their place of choice. To learn more about the charity go to their website http://www.mariecurie.org.uk/.

The second charity, World Animal Protection, are working towards a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty has ended.  By working on various projects around the world, they help governments and communities protect and care for all types animals, wildlife and domestic. To read more about the charity visit http://www.worldanimalprotection.org.uk/.

Before Mrs Claus had to make her was back to the North Pole, another round of “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” began, this time accompanied by dancing and clapping. She said her farewells and left the elves handing out candy canes to the crowds.

Pop back tomorrow to see what Day 12 has in store for us!
