Run For Something!
Colour Me RAD, the fund-raising fun run came to Harewood House, near Leeds last Saturday with a tsunami of colour that made coloured tears of joy run down everyone’s cheeks!
Colour Me RAD is “loosely based on the Hindu Festival of Colours, otherwise known as Holi. The festive colours used are a sign of winter’s end and spring’s new beginnings. Or in the case of RAD; the colour represents the end of lame runs and the beginning of fun runs." Organisers claim it is an excuse for everyone to let loose.
The sun shone brightly over this crowded event which was surrounded by energetic music. Blazes of coloured powder bursts were shot from colour cannons and colour mortars creating a multi-toned course trail that all together made for a really bright, fun morning.
Over the past few months we have been sponsoring colleagues within ubu who had entered to do a Colour RAD run raising money for their chosen cause. When I heard on Saturday the Colour RAD run was being held at Harewood Estate, Chutzpah (our therapy dog) and I rushed down to support and cheer our colleagues on.
We met up with Chutzpah's mother (who is also a therapy dog) and her owner and began our search for our colleagues. A tidal wave of coloured powder along with a tornado of bouncing music made us feel incredibly motivated and happy. It was an amazing environment that encouraged us on our search for our colleagues.
After a while we noticed other participants pointing at us and laughing, taking pictures of us as we went round the course. No, it wasn't the humans they were impressed with, it was our therapy dogs whose coats had changed to bright vibrant colours. They were thoroughly enjoying the moment along with everyone else.
So many participants stopped and asked for their photo to be taken with the dogs. As we explored the course there was still no sign of our participant colleagues. In desperation an announcement came from the events stage recognising the coloured therapy dogs. Yet still no sign of our colleagues.
We looked at our pedometer and found we had completed 10k whist searching for our friends on a 5k run!!! You've got it! We did twice the distance and we didn't even realise it. We were have gone so much fun. So we decided to call it a day and rang one of our colleagues to let the know we had tried our very best to find them. Kelly answered and said, "We weren't there! We don't do our run until the 24th June in Sheffield!!!“
All that for...well for fun. Yes Colour Me RAD is a fund-raising event which encourages people to run for a cause they want to support. We did the run for fun…to support our colleagues and made a donation to say thank you for the fun run.....
There is still time to sponsor our colleagues and others in the next Colour Me RAD. Believe me, it's a great morning of real fun…
