This has been an amazing year of new beginnings for ubu and many of the people we serve. We have seen five new purpose-built supports open across the organisation. The latest of these being Halfpenny Lane, a prime example of how ustep can have wonderfully positive impact on people’s lives, setting the standard for excellence alongside our renowned consumer-centred approach.
Halfpenny Court in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire with its fifteen individually designed flats, beautiful communal areas and spacious grounds has set the tone for how our ustep model is pioneering the way forward.
Like all of our ustep supports, Halfpenny Court is set in the heart of the local community, with excellent facilities, transport and social links close at hand. The modern and well-appointed flats have been planned with the people we serve at the centre of the design. They give each person who lives there a great opportunity to create and make a beautiful, safe and secure home for themselves.
We often hear from the people we are going to be working with how they want greater independence and a home of their own, they want to feel valued, and to be active, just like anyone else. For many, they are led to believe these things are not possible. Halfpenny Court offers each person that possibility and opportunity combined with caring and compassionate support from fully trained enabling staff, led by qualified and experienced managers.
The people we serve share the same goals as everyone else and want to experience a great quality of life. Because of its prominent location within Knaresborough, the people we serve are already becoming an integral part of the community, engaging and contributing as equal citizens to a brilliant array of activities, events and creativity that are so much a part of this lively town.
Working in partnership with the NHS and local authority, our ustep model is proving to be a transforming experience for the people we serve and it is with excitement we anticipate many wonderful outcomes for these and future consumers.
